Fitness-For-Service assessment procedures consist of both the present integrity of the component given a current state of damage and the projected remaining life. Upstream/Midstream Pipeline and Distribution Integrity


Establishing MAOP where records are unable to reconfirm the operating pressures has been a challenge by pipeline operators. Incomplete records pertaining Class locations will require hydrostatic test pressure of 1.25 times MAOP. Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) is required to sample the pipeline system for missing data and determine the material properties of pipe type and vintage. It requires many tests such as in-situ NDE, hardness testing, possible cutouts and destructive tests, etc. TT’s experienced consultants can support the pipeline operator to test and determine this required information for documentation.

Even though there have been leak detection systems around from the 1940’s i.e. security and military requirements, pipelines have experienced hundreds of ruptures and unknown number of slow leaks regarding petroleum products. PIPELINE Crossings



Pipeline Crossings and Interference Problems


Interference currents or stray currents are defined as when a DC electric current source such as an anode, DC transit rail system or other foreign structure’s CP current flows onto a nearby pipeline or crossing using the earth as a pathway. When it has been established through static or dynamic interference testing that this condition exists and the location of the area such as the crossing has been identified, a way must be provided for interference current to be eliminated. TT’s field experience in solving these issues in order to eliminate the interference consists of many methods either singularly or in combination which include engineered bonds, additional CP including linear anode systems, galvanic drains, recoating, etc. to minimize the effects to all parties concerned.
