The Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) AC Predictive & Mitigation software developed by Electro Sciences, Inc. and Dr. John Dabkowski (PRCI Catalog #L51835) has been the defacto industry safety & analysis standard since 1999. PIPELINE Corrosion

Internal Corrosion PowerTool


Technical Toolboxes' new Internal Corrosion PowerTool© is a steady-state multiphase simulator that integrates corrosion analyses from a comprehensive set of corrosion models together with relevant flow parameters to predict, identify and assess the locations of highest likely risk or damage. Internal Corrosion PowerTool© provides corrosion engineering assessments to design a mitigation and monitoring program. Key performance indicators (KPIs) are used to determine detrimental flow conditions. These indicators include predicted corrosion rates (influenced by sour gas contaminants, oxygen, microbial induced corrosion, iron carbonate scaling, organic acids, temperature, glycol, etc.), remaining pipe life, water accumulation, and erosional velocity. Per NACE methodology, KPIs are assessed by regions that are defined by the user on the basis of relevant pipeline parameters such as the elevation profile, flow pattern, holdup, wall thickness, and predicted corrosion. This assessment enables the engineer to identify the necessary performance action to be taken to reduce and control the likelihood of internal corrosion.

EXTERNAL Corrosion

RSTRENG+


When corrosion features in pipelines are detected by in-line inspection (ILI), a decision to replace, repair, or accept and monitor each feature must be made. This decision is based on the prediction of the failure pressure of the corroded pipe and must be accurate without being overly conservative. The US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 49, Parts 192 and 195 stipulate that ASME B31G or RSTRENG® be used to assess the remaining strength of corroded pipe. Originally developed by PRCI, the official RSTRENG software is the intellectual property of Technical Toolboxes.


RSTRENG® is the preferred technology for determining the remaining strength of externally corroded pipe, as it is less conservative than ASME B31G and provides a more accurate assessment of the corroded area. This results in enhanced pipeline integrity and safety while simultaneously lowering costs to the pipeline owner/operator.


The US Department of Transportation (DOT/OPS) has approved ASME-B31G and RSTRENG® as accepted evaluation technologies for use by pipeline owner/operators and the service companies that work for them. RSTRENG® is also referenced as an acceptable evaluation method in NACE RP0502-2002 (Pipeline External Corrosion Direct Assessment Methodology) and ASME B31.8S (Managing System Integrity of Gas Pipelines).

SUBSEA Stability

AGA/PRCI Submarine On-Bottom Stability Simulator


The AGA/PRCI Submarine Pipeline On-Bottom Stability Analysis Software & Sub-Sea Pipeline Design Standard (AGA\PRCI-OBS) was developed by Halliburton Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) under contract to the Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI).


The AGA/PRCI-OBS is considered the world standard for the design and analysis of sub-sea pipelines. It features calculation of kinematics from 3-D irregular waves, several hydrodynamic force models, models for partial burial, non-linear, time dependent interaction between pipeline and soil (sand and clay) and non-linear pipeline material properties (for boundary elements). This allows for detailed analysis of specific pipeline sections subjected to specified environmental conditions. The new release consists of three (3) levels with Level 1 being used for quick simplified analysis, Level 2 for comprehensive detailed deign and modeling and Level 3 for advanced and very complex subsea pipeline design modeling.


Level 1: Used for quick and simplified analysis. It calculates the static stability of an un-trenched pipeline against lateral and vertical displacement under wave and current loading.


Level 2: The AGA/PRCI-OBS Level2 is a design tool for on-bottom submarine pipelines, which calculates the submerged pipe weight to meet specified design criteria.


Level 3: The AGA/PRCI-OBS Level3 is a Finite Element Model (FEM) formulation, based on 2-D elements which solve, in the time domain, the equations of motion of the pipelines in the horizontal plane using small deflection theory, but accounting for bending deformation effects on axial forces.
